Something is broken

Perl gives you two clues about what is wrong with the Hubble Space Telescope. From those, work out what is broken — not how to mend it.

Nobody could just go up and look. Hubble is 470 km up, and everything anyone knew about what was wrong with it arrived by radio: pictures that came out wrong, and numbers that did not add up. That is most of how space works: you cannot pick the thing up and shake it, so you reason from what it does. And then people did go up, five times, and they did mend it.
