How it looks on Ganymede

This moon is enormous.
The biggest moon anywhere.
Bigger than the planet Mercury.
Then it should BE a planet.
That is not fair. I shall complain. I am writing a letter.
It is called a moon because of what it goes round, not because of its size.
Ganymede goes round a planet, so it is a moon.
So Mercury is not a moon, even though it is smaller?
Mercury circles the Sun.
…And this circles Jupiter.
So the name is about what you go round, not how big you are.
Exactly.
I still think it is not fair.
Names rarely are.
The biggest moon anywhere must have the biggest rocky surface.
It is ice, Spark.
…Ice, not rock. Solid enough to stand on.
And it is still ice the whole way round.
Ice you could walk on.

Where the Earth is clear, it climbs high in the sky. The darker it gets, the lower it stays. Where it is black, it never comes up. No shading at all: it does not matter where you live.
What do I need to see Ganymede?
A few very sharp-eyed people have caught it with no help at all. Worth trying, and worth failing.
Binoculars with 10× magnification show it, if you rest them on a fence or a wall.
A 150 mm telescope is what shows it properly.
