Spark and Perl go looking
It is so bright here!
My whiskers are getting hot.
We are closer to the Sun than any planet.
That little craft is Parker, and it goes closer still.
Why does it not melt?
It hides behind a shield.
The front gets much hotter than a pizza oven. Behind the shield, it stays as warm as a summer day.
And it is going so fast!
Faster than anything people have ever built.
It could get from home to the Moon in about half an hour.
Has it really touched the Sun?
It has flown through the Sun’s outer air, the corona.
Nothing else we have made has ever been there.
No — it is only as big as a small car, and far too far away.
And it flies near the Sun, where you must never look.
Where the map is clear, this climbs high in the sky. The darker the shading, the lower it stays. Where the map is black, it never comes up. No shading at all: where you live makes no difference.
