How it looks on Titan

It is raining!

Absolutely not.
Why ever not?
Because this rain is not water.
There are rivers here, and lakes near the top, and you would not want one drop of any of it.
Then I shall swim in the lakes instead.
You would freeze solid.
…It rains, and it flows, and it fills whole lakes.
And not one drop of it is water.
Not one drop. It is methane.
At home methane is the gas we cook with. Here it is so cold that it runs as a liquid.
The gas off the cooker? A whole lake of it?
A whole lake.
And it will not catch fire. There is no oxygen in the air here.
Why is everything orange?
The air. High up, sunlight breaks the methane apart and the pieces stick together into a fine orange smoke.
It is so thick that you cannot see the sky through it at all.
And under your paws, ice — out here ice is as hard as rock.
Is anybody coming to look?
A little flying machine is on its way.
It will land, and then hop from place to place to see what is there.

Find Saturn first. Titan is the faint point beside it.

Where the Earth is clear, it climbs high in the sky. The darker it gets, the lower it stays. Where it is black, it never comes up. No shading at all: it does not matter where you live.
What do I need to see Titan?
Binoculars with 10× magnification show it, if you rest them on a fence or a wall.
That little point is the one with weather.
A 150 mm telescope is what shows it properly.
