Beta Pictoris

How to find Beta Pictoris

Look in the constellation Pictor.

The star itself is easily visible (magnitude 3.9); its disk and planet need professional coronagraph observatories.

Worth knowing about Beta Pictoris

In weight, almost twice as massive as the Sun. On the 100-meter-track scale model of the Milky Way, Beta Pictoris would be about 6 centimeters from the Sun — roughly the size of a tennis ball. Light takes 63 Earth years to get here from Beta Pictoris, so what you are looking at is Beta Pictoris as it was 63 Earth years ago.
